PPSC Robotics Lab
Higher Education
Colorado Springs, CO
The transformation of the previous classroom, storage, lab, and shop space into a state-of-the-art robotics lab and classroom at Pikes Peak State College marks a significant advancement in educational facilities. This newly designed, open, and flexible lab space is tailored to accommodate the dynamic needs of modern robotics education. The lab is equipped with multi-axis mills, lathes, and drill presses, providing students with hands-on experience in manufacturing robotics equipment. Additionally, state-of-the-art soldering stations are available, ensuring students learn proper techniques essential for their future careers.
To enhance the learning environment, acoustic panels have been installed overhead, providing effective noise control and adding visual energy to the space. The flooring has been upgraded to epoxy, offering a slip-resistant surface that seals the old concrete floor, providing better durability and easier maintenance. The lab features overhead compressed air lines, along with 120v, 240v, and data connections, all accessible via retractor cables for nine mobile teaching stations. This setup allows for quick and easy manipulation of the space, fostering an adaptable learning environment.
Situated adjacent to the welding program, the robotics lab offers students the opportunity to engage in larger, interdisciplinary studies and exploration, enhancing their educational experience. This proximity encourages collaboration between programs, allowing students to gain a broader understanding of related fields and practical applications.
